Joseph Michael Yobo was born in Kano, River State, Nigeria on September 6 1980 to his father Williamson Michael Yobo and Comfort Yobo. He was born in a family of eight siblings among them, Austin Yobo who was an ex-international footballer for his country, a FIFA licensed and English FA registered, Gideon Yobo and Nnorum who made headlines after being kidnapped and released on ransom after 12 days.

His father was a renowned journalist who worked with a newspaper company in Nigeria. He grew up alongside his siblings in Rivers State and attended formal education in primary and secondary schools.

For the love of football, he was enrolled in Michellin-Harcourt at the age of 16 years and later joined Standard Liege club in Belgian.

Yobo’s family has a Christianity background and this could be the religion he practices. He is married to his wife Adaeze Yobo and is blessed with three children Joey, Jayden and Lexine.

He is the founder of a charity organization known as Joseph Yobo Charity Foundation whose main aim is to help underprivileged children in Nigeria by offering them scholarships that range from primary school to university. In addition, he started a football academy in Ogoni and also runs football camps in Lagos.

Career

The heart of Joseph Yobo biography is his football career. Yobo began his career in Michellin-Harcourt and later moved to Standard Liège in Belgian making his first team debut. He was then bought by Marseille and then to club Everton.

Soon after his debut at Everton, he was loaned to Tenerife. He only took nine months at the club returning to Marseille and then shortly after, to Everton on a loan.

Everton signed him at a fee of $6.3 million permanently. The player became the most consistent in the Everton squad, also being ever present throughout the season, and committing himself at Goodison Park. Yobo was appointed as Everton’s captain thus becoming the first African to captain the club.

Fenerbahce signed the player on a one-year contract, Fenerbahce and Everton agreed on another loan deal for $755,779 and he signed a one-year contract for a fee of $2.5 million. He resigned from Fenerbahce permanently on a three-year contract after playing for Everton for 10 years.

Two weeks later, he played against Torku Konyaspor and scored a goal in the match. His contract at Fenerbahce was terminated on mutual consent, being released from the club with an award of the plague of appreciation. Joseph returned to England on a loan at Norwich City with a view of permanency. He has earned a handsome net worth through these contracts that have seen it grow from time to time.

The player has represented his country at international level three times at FIFA World Cups and six times at the Africa Cup of Nations, being capped 101 times. He made his exit from active football after a match that was organized by the River State Government.

Yobo was appointed as the assistant coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation. His excellent performance and dedication towards his work have greatly rewarded him.
