Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the midfielder’s exit with a post on X, formerly Twitter, a few minutes ago.
“Thomas Partey leaves Arsenal today as planned since 10 days ago. His contract expires, Thomas will leave as free agent… and Christian Nørgaard will join the Gunners from Brentford.” Fabrizio wrote on X.

Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atletico Madrid and has been a key player for the Gunners over the years, establishing himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. The Ghanaian has made 167 appearances for Arsenal since his arrival, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists.

Partey was a key player for Arsenal last season and played several positions as the Gunners struggled with multiple injuries. Besides his main position in the defensive midfield, the 32-year-old also started on the right-back at some point and impressed with his performance.
Many fans wanted Arsenal to renew Partey’s contract especially after he put a solid performance against European giants Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie which Mikel Arteta’s side won 3-0. However, the Gunners have decided to move on and look for alternative after the deal collapsed.
Prior to joining Arsenal, Partey excelled as a midfielder at Atletico. He joined the Spanish giants as a youth player in 2012 and soon became a key player for Diego Simeone. He was part of Atletico’s side that won the UEFA Europa League title in 2018 and reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2016, losing to Real Madrid. With Arsenal, Partey won the Community Shield after Arteta’s side beat Manchester City on penalties at Wembley Stadium.
Thomas Partey Replacements At Arsenal
According to various sources on the web, Arsenal are busy on the transfer market looking for Partey’s replacements. Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi is one of the players Arsenal will be bringing in this summer to bolster their midfield.
Zubimendi was reportedly in London last week to sign his contract with Arsenal. The Gunners will reportedly pay around £52 million to complete the midfielder’s move this summer.
Zubimendi is expected to join Arsenal in July as Real Sociedad want the profits from the sale to count towards the next financial year. The financial year of the football calendar runs from July 1 to June 30 and clubs are only allowed to lose a certain amount of money.

Arsenal have also been linked with Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard. According to sources, the Gunners will pay an initial fee of £10 million which will increase to £15 million after add-ons. Brentford already gave Norgaard, 31, the greenlight to complete his move to Arsenal.
