Gor Mahia coach recruitment will deviate from the norm according to the club chairman Ambrose Rachier.

The club, popularly known as K’Ogalo fired it’s two interim coaches last week together with the entire operational and technical bench.

Rachier in a statement stated that the club reached the decision following poor results by the team in the 2024-25 Kenya Premier League season.

Its former head coach, Croatian national Sinisa Mihic, parted ways with the club in May 2025. His assistants Michael Nam and Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno took over his coaching duties.

In an unseen turn of events, Rachier on last week Wednesday issued a statement announcing the sacking of the technical and operational bench.

He termed it a bold re-organisation strategy aimed at preparing the team for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the Club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 season,” read part of the statement.

“The separation has been reached amicably and in good faith, with the Club recognizing and appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff, we extend our sincere gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the Club during their tenure.

What Gor Mahia Coach Recruitment is Like

In light of this decision, Gor Mahia coach recruitment is unlikely to hire local talent as the head coach because Kenyan coaches never apply for the position.

The club has already advertised the position across its socials. An ideal candidate must hold a CAF A Pro diploma for a UEFA License and a minimum work experience of eight years as a coach running a national team.

Further, he must demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and deliver as per the team’s wishes.

Rachier has since opened up about the difficulties the club is facing in the Gor Mahia coach recruitment together with a new technical team.

He revealed that since taking office, not a single local coach has ever applied for the top job at K’Ogalo.

According to Rachier, this stems from the enormous pressure associated with managing Gor Mahia, particularly from passionate fans who traditionally prefer foreign coaches.

On the recent shake-up within the technical team, Rachier clarified it wasn’t a firing but a planned restructuring of the bench.

He told Citizen Digital that K’Ogalo dissolved the team, but still has an option to reappoint some of the staff who were sent home based on their performance.

Rachier stressed that the door remains open for some former staff to return, depending on how good they are at their jobs.

What Challenges is Gor Mahia Facing?

He also spoke candidly about the hurdles the club faces when reviewing applications for the coaching role.

Many candidates, he said, fall short of the necessary credentials such as UEFA Pro or CAF B licenses.

Others lack experience working with African clubs — a key requirement for Gor Mahia. In addition, some qualified applicants ask for huge salaries beyond the club’s needs.

In a separate development, Rachier confirmed that Gor Mahia has transitioned to a fully digital ticketing system.

This move is designed to enhance financial accountability following past concerns about irregular gate collections, especially during high-profile games.

Under this new plan, gate managers oversee collections in an effort to ensure transparency and accountability.
