Rumours of McDonald Mariga removal as the Vice President of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) triggered a storm for Hussein Mohammed, the FKF President.
Social media was on Wednesday awash with reports that FKF secretly removed Mariga from office.
The former Harambee Stars player has been a no-show in football circles for the past month. He disappeared shortly after the passing of his mother, Mildred Wanyama, in June.
He has maintained a low profile since then, and his absence sparked rumours of his removal from office.
What followed was a series of comments by Kenyans calling out the current leadership for allegedly kicking out Mariga out of office while he is at his lowest
FKF Responds to McDonald Mariga Removal from Office Claims
In a statement on his socials, the FKF President dismissed the narrative, saying McDonald Mariga removal from office is a baseless claim.
“Kindly disregard misinformation circulating on social media. FKF is an institution guided by its constitution, which we strictly adhere to,” said the FKF President.

He noted that his focus, and that of all the other office bearers, is to ensure CHAN 2024is set to be held at the Nyayo National Stadium and Moi Sports International Centre, Kasarani.
“Our focus remains on delivering a successful CHAN 2024 and raising the standards of Kenyan Football,” he noted.
How Would You Remove McDonald Mariga from Office?
In order to effect McDonald Mariga removal as the Vice President of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) constitutionally, there should be a duly followed process put in place by the FKF.
It starts with a written complaint addressed formally to the National Executive Committee (NEC). The complaint should spell out particular accusations and procedures that included gross misconduct, breach of FKF rules, and loss of confidence.
The presentation of this complaint should be made by some NEC members, and the minority number is inclined to be one-third or a majority.
The case is then sent to FKF Ethics or Disciplinary Committee, which looks into the allegations and establishes whether the complaints hold water.
In case the committee believes the allegations, it holds a formal hearing. This gives Mariga a chance to respond to the allegations levelled against him.

He will have a chance to defend himself, bring witnesses and even have a lawyer to represent him. Depending on the result, the committee can advise on dismissal.
Kick out can only be done after a vote by the FKF General Assembly, made up of the delegations of counties, leagues and affiliates. The dismissal only holds if it’s approved by a two-thirds majority.
Mariga would still have the right to appeal against the decision internally or elevate it to the Sports Disputes Tribunal or the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
What Happend to McDonald Mariga Mother?
The matriarch had been ailing for a while, but the family kept it private since her two sons are public figures. They did not want a lot of scrutiny on their family.
However, she rested on the morning of June 14. She was mourned by the football world as a mother who nurtured her sons’ talents and those of others back in the village.
