McDonald Mariga mother, Mildred Wanyama has passed on. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President announced on his socials that his mother was no more.
The deceased was also the mother to Victor Wanyama, Mariga’s younger brother, currently playing for Dunfermline Athletic in Scotland’s second-tier Championship league.
What Happened to McDonald Mariga Mother?
It is not clear yet what led to Mildred’s death. The family is yet to give details about the cause of her death.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, who left us peacefully today morning. We are currently making arrangements and will share more details soon! Thank you,” read the X post.
McDonald Mariga mother was an avid sportswoman who played netball in her heydays. She identified her sons’ special talent in football and nurtured it.
Wanyama and Mariga are among the few elite Kenyan footballers who have played internationally. Mariga who dived into Kenyan politics in 2019 after retiring from football played for top clubs in Europe.
He played for Inter Milan in Serie A. The FKF Vice President played for other Italian clubs namely Latina, Cuneo Calcio, and Parma.

He later played in Spain – Real Oviedo, Real Sociedad – and Sweden – Enköpings SK, Helsingborgs IF – before retiring.
Mariga tried running for the Kibra Parliamentary seat in 2019 following the death of Ken Okoth, who was serving his second term.
Okoth had been ailing from cancer and was receiving treatment abroad.
Further, Wanyama has had an exciting international football career in Europe. He had a successful stint with the English Premier League Clubs Celtic FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
Wanyama played for Swedish club Helsingborgs IF just like his brother Mariga. He later played for Belgian club Beerschot AC, CF Montréal in Canada and lately, Dunfermline Athletic.
McDonald Mariga mother always spoke joyfully about her two sons and their football success, home and away.
She always advised parents to nurture their children’s sporting talents, citing Mariga and Wanyama’s international success as an example.
