President William Ruto has pledged to keep his promise to Harambee Stars following Kenya vs Morocco results on Sunday.

Kenya won their third African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A match against Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Stars beat Morocco’s Atlas Lions 1-0 despite the high hopes the Lions had in winning the match.  Kenya proved too strong for them despite their fame as African football champions.

Morocco’s coach Tarik Sektioui had expressed hope earlier that his squad would win against Kenya. Sektioui’s focus was on winning the first-round match against the Stars.

Ruto’s Promise After Kenya Vs Morocco Results

Shortly after Ryan Ogam scored for the Stars in the 42nd minute, the Ksh1 million reality sank in with the Kenya vs Morocco results.

Ogam shot the ball with his left foot straight into Morocco’s net. It was the second attempt for Kenya after Ben Stanley Omondi’s shot at Morocco’s net.

Ruto was happy with the Harambee Stars’ performance in this match. He was in disbelief that his home team held a steady 1-0 lead over the Atlas Lions despite Chrispine Erambo’s red card.

Erambo got a red card following a dangerous tackle against Morocco’s Anass El Mahraoui, leaving the Stars with 10 players.

The 10-man squad defended their lead aggressively in the second half of the match. Erambo got the red card minutes before halftime.

Following the impressive Kenya vs Morocco results, Ruto said he is not going back on his word to award each player Ksh1 million for every game they win.

“Once again, the resilient, indomitable Kenyan spirit has roared to life at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani! Harambee Stars stood tall, defying the odds to defeat one of the tournament’s giants – Morocco – even after being reduced to 10 men for much of the match,” said the Kenyan president.

“Kenya is rising. We are conquering arenas where no one thought we could stand, let alone triumph. This is Kenya. We believe. We fight. We rise. Congratulations to our boys – mumecheza kama nyinyi. Sasa nitacheza kama mimi!” he added.

Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy said he expected his squad to perform well against Morocco despite being one man down.

“As a player, playing for a team with 10 men is hell. When I was a player, we used to manage it perfectly, like it was our everyday thing. I learnt the tricks from working with Mourinho,” McCarthy stated.

Kenyan football fans said that the cash prize from Ruto was the motivating factor.

Mwando Kamau noted that investing in young athletes was the way to go.

“Who would have thought that supporting young people and throwing them money would amount to a population that gets something to focus on. Rome had colloseums for the masses.
