The Kenyan government has committed to establishing 37 sports academies nationwide.
This is according to President William Ruto. He made this statement during a breakfast meeting with Police Bullets and Kenya Police FC on Tuesday at the Statehouse.
He welcomed the two teams following their successful 2024-25 football season.
Police FC broke an 11-year winless spell this season to win the Football Federation Kenya Premier League (FKF-PL).
Ruto described the two clubs as sporting powerhouses that would benefit from having these academies across the country to nurture talents while they are young.
“Congratulations to the Kenya Police F.C. and the Kenya Police Bullets for the fitting victory in the FKF Premier League and the FKF Women’s Premier League,” said the President.

Kisumu’s Moi Stadium is also on the government’s radar to upgrade, among others. He explained that having these stadiums in a good and modern state will complement the positive effect that sports academies will have on the Kenyan sports sector.
President Ruto announced that they are constructing new stadiums in Kamariny, Eldoret, Bomet, Maua, Chuka, Kapkatet and Kapsabet.
