- Matasi was accused of manipulating the outcome of Kenya vs Cameroon in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers
- The High Court in Kakamega on Tuesday issued a conservatory order
Kakamega Homeboyz can breathe a sigh of relief following Patrick Matasi suspension lifted news.
Matasi, who doubles up as Harambee Stars goalkeeper, was suspended in late March by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over match-fixing claims.
He maintained innocence, stating that he had never engaged in such malpractice in his entire football career.
Matasi was accused of manipulating the outcome of Kenya vs Cameroon in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The match, which was played in Yaounde on October 16, 2024, ended in a 1-0 loss for Kenya.
Patrick Matasi Suspension Lifted by Kakamega High Court
The High Court in Kakamega issued a conservatory order on Tuesday allowing Matasi to participate in all FKF-arranged tournaments and events.
According to the ruling, his ban remains lifted until the issue before the court is heard and fully determined.

Judge S.N Mbungi, in his ruling, stated that FKF, who is the respondent in the petition, is yet to respond to the court and the application by Matasi.
He said this is the basis of Patrick Matasi suspension lifted.
“I do issue a conservatory order restraining the Respondent whether by themselves or any person acting on the express orders of the Respondent from acting on the Respondent’s communication dated 27.3.25 that suspended the applicant Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions pending hearing and determination of the petition,” he ruled reported by Citizen Digital.
The judge instructed the petitioner (Matasi) to file and serve the petition to the respondent (FKF) in 30 days beginning March 8.
Further, the mention of the petition will be heard on May 6, 2025.
FKF Suspends Matasi
The FKF, led by Hussein Mohammed, issued a 90-day suspension against Matasi to conduct investigations about match-fixing allegations.
His suspension came after an undated video appeared on March 27 showing Matasi accepting to influence a league game with an unknown recruiter.
However, SportsLeo can’t confirm the authenticity of the video yet. The 37-year-old goalkeeper insisted that he did not fix any match as the video tried to depict.
He dismissed the video as AI-generated to soil his reputation with Homeboyz, which he joined in February 2025.
In suspending him, FKF said in a statement that allegations against him were serious.
“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation,” the federation said.

FKF promised complete transparency combined with a rigorous approach toward investigating a fair process. The federation guaranteed to uphold Matasi’s rights during the probe, noting that it would take further steps based on the outcome of the investigation.
Matasi Back to Homeboyz
News of Patrick Matasi suspension lifted excited Homeboyz, who were at a loss without the skipper. Cleophas Shimanyula, the owner, had earlier praised Matasi’s skills.
He said that the goalkeeper saved the team in three matches during penalty shootouts. Nevertheless, Shimanyula said that they would keep and support Matasi because he maintained innocence on the accusations.
Shimanyula noted that through observation of the video, Matasi did not engage in match-fixing as alleged.
Nonetheless, he said that he is waiting for the conclusion of investigations into the matter by FKF, CAF and FIFA.
Homeboyz, he added, doesn’t condone activities that erode football integrity. The club has internal mechanisms to rein in on such activities.
The club previously reported some of its players to FKF for match-fixing.
