- Patrick Matasi, Harambee Stars goalkeeper is serving a 90-day suspension following allegations of match-fixing
- An undated video surfaced online showing him agreeing to a deal to manipulate a league match
- FKF has launched an official probe into the matter and is inviting anyone with evidence against him to present it
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched a probe on Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi following match-fixing allegations.
FKF suspended Matasi for 90 days to allow for investigations into the match manipulation claims. This follows the release of an undated video on Thursday, where the goalkeeper agrees to manipulate the outcome of a league game.
Matasi, 37, plays for Kakamega Homeboyz in the Kenyan Premier League. He is a decorated player for the club with more than 30 internationals caps.
FKF Suspends Patrick Matasi
The Homeboyz FC player has denied claims of manipulating a match. He dismissed the video, saying that it was AI-generated to soil his name, warning that he would take action against those who released it.
However, SportsLeo cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video showing Patrick Matasi allegedly agreeing to a deal to manipulate a league match.
He appeared for Harambee Stars in October during Kenya’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign.
FKF, in a statement, said Matasi cannot play in any game under the federation’s purview.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation,” the statement read.
The federation cited its decision to suspend Matasi from Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016).
FKF will probe the issue together with CAF, FIFA and other relevant authorities, adding that it [FKF] is committed to safeguarding Kenya’s football integrity.
The federation assured that the investigation would be transparent, thorough, and fair. Further, they will respect his rights as a player and will take necessary action from the outcome of the probe.
Support from Homeboyz
As things heat up for Matasi, his home club, Kakamega Homeboyz, has vowed to stand by him. Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula said that he spoke to Patrick Matasi about the video.
He said that Matasi was shocked to learn that he stands accused of match-fixing, which he has no knowledge about. Matas has been with the Kakamega Homeboyz for three matches, where he has proven his worth.

He saved the team from penalties in three matches he has played for the club. Shimanyula said that he is an anti-match manipulation crusader because this is the only thing that keeps football’s integrity.
However, he remarked that people should not associate Matasi’s woes with Kakamega Homeboyz because the goalkeeper wasn’t with the club when the alleged match-fixing happened.
He added that Matasi has been with Homeboyz for only one month; therefore, it would be wrong to link the accusations to the club.
Shimanyula stated that he found no wrongdoing from Matasi to the lub after watching the video. He reiterated that making conclusions from a leaked video is a wrong call.
Homeboyz will keep him until FKF concludes its investigations and gives a verdict into the match manipulation claims.
Nevertheless, Shimanyula reaffirmed that his club does not condone match-fixing. He noted that they have in the past reported their players who manipulated matches,
FIFA dealt with them through FKF. Further, Homeboyz has set up internal systems to spot and address any match manipulation incidences.
Just like FKF, Homeboyz invited anyone with evidence of Matasi’s match-fixing to present it to the club.
