On Sunday, Myles Lewis-Skelly caught the attention of football fans by his celebration during Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Manchester City.
After giving the Gunners a 4-1 lead, the wonderkid celebrated his goal by dropping to his knees and then sitting in a meditation pose, which is a celebration often used by City’s Erling Haaland. His Arsenal teammates gathered around, letting him be the man of the moment as all cameras were pointed towards him.
Well, if you’re probably wondering why Lewis-Skelly copied Haaland’s celebration, then worry not because we got the answer to your question.
The first time Lewis-Skelly and Haaland crossed paths was back in September during the chaotic 2-2 draw at Etihad Stadium. The duo had a confrontation, which resulted in Lewis-Skelly being shown a yellow card by the match’s referee. The youngster was warming up on the sidelines waiting to make his Premier League debut when he approached Haaland, who demanded to know who he was.
But on Sunday, Haaland needed not to ask again who Lewis-Skelly was as he introduced himself by scoring an amazing goal and then following it up with a taunting celebration. The youngster’s image sitting in a meditation pose and surrounded by teammates could become iconic if he fulfills the promise he is showing.

Lewis-Skelly (18 years and 129 days) became the youngest player since Wayne Rooney to score his first goal against defending Premier League champions. However, he was overtaken by teammate Ethan Nwaneri (17 years and 318 days old), who sealed the win for Arsenal by scoring the fifth goal.
Interestingly, Lewis-Skelly’s celebration wasn’t the only troll directed towards Haaland and Manchester City as rapper Kendrick Lamar’s tack ‘Humble’ was played at the Emirates on full-time in reference to the Norwegian telling Mikel Arteta to “stay humble” back in September.
Who Is Myles Lewis-Skelly?
Myles Anthony Lewis-Skelly was born on September 26, 2006, in Denmark Hill, London. According to sources, his parents are Britons while his grandparents have roots in the Caribbean (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and St Lucia). He is eligible to play for either England or Barbados at international level, but has opted to represent his country of birth.
Lewis-Skelly began his football journey at Arsenal academy in 2014 at the age of eight. During his academy days, he schooled at the Aldenham School in Hertfordshire and also trained there.

Lewis-Kelly caught the attention of fans during the 2022-23 campaign when he played a crucial role in Arsenal’s run to the final of the FA Youth Cup, where they lost to West Ham United. He scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of Arsenal’s semi-final clash against Manchester City. The Gunners won the match 2-1.
Following the impressive campaign, Lewis-Kelly signed his first professional contract with Arsenal on October 5, 2023. He made his senior debut for the club on September 22, 2024, during the Gunners 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
The 18-year-old was shown a controversial red card a few days ago in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arsenal appealed and the suspension was rescinded.
