Alexander Isak was one of the players who made headlines during the 2025 summer transfer window. The player stopped training and refused to play for the Magpies in an attempt to force a move away from St. James’ Park.

Eventually, Newcastle reached an agreement with Liverpool, which was Isak’s preferred destination, on transfer deadline day. The Reds paid a massive £125 million to acquire Isak, making him the third most expensive footballer of all time.
2. Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz would have topped the list of most expensive transfers of the 2025 summer transfer window if Isak’s deal could have failed to materialize. The German playmaker joined Liverpool early in the summer for a base fee of £100 million, which rises to £116.5 million if add-ons are included.
Wirtz had established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his time with Bayer Leverkusen. However, he has had a mixed start to life in England, providing an assist in the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace but is yet to impress in Premier League matches.
3. Hugo Ekitike

Liverpool paid a base fee of £69 million to sign Hugo Ekitike from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in July. The Frenchman’s transfer fee is expected to rise to £79 million if potential add-ons are included.
Taking a look at Ekitike’s start to life in England, it’s safe to say Liverpool have a gem in him. The 23-year-old scored in Liverpool’s opening games against Bournemouth and Newcastle United. He’s proven to be lethal in front of goal and it remains to be seen how he’ll share the space in front of goal with Isak.
4. Benjamin Sesko
After Manchester United’s attack proved to be toothless last season, the club went all in this summer with the aim of strengthening their frontline. One of their major signings was Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Slovenian arrived for an initial £66.2 million which could rise to £73.5 million with add-ons.
Sesko proved himself while playing in the Bundesliga but is yet to show his prowess in front of goal at Manchester United. Ruben Amorim has not given the 22-year-old the chance to start a Premier League game so far this season but that could change after the international break.
5. Nick Woltemade
