Victor Wanyama has signed with Dunfermline Athletic FC, a second-tier club in the Scottish league.
He agreed to the short-term deal, reuniting him with his former manager, Neil Lennon, after his contract with CF Montreal on the Canadian side expired in January.
The 33-year-old Kenyan international joins Dunfermline until the end of the season, which is dependent on international clearance.
Lennon worked with Wanyama at Celtic between 2011 and 2013 before his transfer to the Premier League club, Southampton. He won a Scottish Cup and two league titles for Celtic and made history scoring against Barcelona in the Champions League.
He then left for Southampton in a $96.3 million (£12.5 million) deal. The midfielder played for three seasons and made 97 appearances.
Wanyama left for Tottenham Hotspurs in 2016 and played for the Premier League club for four years, after which he transferred to Canadian MLS side CF Montreal.
When is Victor Wanyama Playing for Dunfermline Athletic FC?
Victor Wanyama could play at East End Park on Saturday, March 29, against Ayr United. It will be Lennon’s first match as Dunfermline Athletic FC manager.

Wanyam’s addition to the team raises hopes for the Pars in their 2024-25 season campaign. Lennon, who coached the Kenyan at Celtic, is focused on raising the team’s profile.
Speaking on March 26, a few days after being unveiled as Dunfermline’s new manager, Lennon said the team lacks consistency despite having young players.
With only seven fixtures for the season, Lennon has a huge task of keeping the team in the league. Already, they are six points to the bottom of the league for the season.
In his assessment of the team’s style of play, he described it as ‘passive’ and poor. It’s one of the things he will change but he warned that it takes time.
Will Wanyama Help Dunfermline Win?
Having worked with Lennon before, Victor Wanyama has a good grasp of the manager’s tactical play. He believes that Pars players will conform to Lennon’s tactical blend in the remaining matches of the season.

His hope is on young players such as Kyle Benedictus, Joe Chalmers and David Wotherspoon, who give the team stability. Together with Wanyama, the aspect of team leadership is taken care of.
Lennon is also focused on guiding Connor Young, who performed well at Edinburgh City but is yet to find ground with Dunfermline Athletic FC.
The new Dunfermline manager is looking for a formation that brings out the best of his team. Wanyama is likely to be in his first 11 squad ahead of Lennon’s first match as manager against Ayr United.
Dunfermline vs Raith Rovers match on March 14 ended in 2-0 loss for the Pars. Nonetheless, Lennon pointed out that he saw a team with potential during the match but lost because they lacked necessary tact and manager guidance.
The manager will work with John McLaughlan, who previously coached Celtic’s youth team. McLaughlan is now a part of his coaching team at Dunfermline Athletic FC.
Other assisting coaches include Lain Brunskill, who he worked with in Bucharest and Kevin McDonald, who he worked with at Bolton.
