Ex-Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams has been handed a suspended jail sentence by Chester Crown Court for dangerous driving.

Williams was spotted driving an Audi A3 on the A34 near Handforth, Cheshire, at a very high speed before colliding with a blue Ford Fiesta and crashing his vehicle at 6 pm on August 20, 2023. The speed of the car almost reached 100 mph (161 kmh) before the crash.

The court was also told that he had a female passenger on the car and was showing off with a balloon on his mouth before the accident. The woman was seen filming at some point and it was easy to note that the car was being recklessly driven.

There was damage on Williams’ car after the accident and he was rushed to hospital for treatment. He was later taken to Middlewich custody suite. Although he admitted he was the driver of the Audi, the 24-year-old initially denied driving the car recklessly. He also denied that the car was out of control and blamed another driver for the accident.

Williams was on loan at Norwich City and still signed to Manchester United at the time of the accident. Ten months later, the Red Devils announced that he had left the club as a free agent.

In March this year, the England international at youth level pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without third party insurance. He has been slapped with a suspended 14-month jail sentence. While his sentence has been suspended for two years, he has also been banned from driving for three years. The court also ordered him to undertake 180 hours of unpaid work as part of a community order.

What Happened To Brandon Williams?

Since his Manchester United departure, football fans have rarely come across the name Brandon Williams. Let’s rewind it a bit.

Brandon Paul Brian Williams was born on September 3, 2000, in Manchester, England. He showed quality on the pitch at a young age and was offered a chance at Manchester United academy in 2008. The youngster went through United’s youth academy and played for various age groups before turning professional in 2019.

Williams was included in United’s travelling squad to face French club Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. However, he wasn’t included in the matchday squad.

The defender’s wait for a chance in the first-team came to an end on September 25 when manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed him his debut as a substitute in the Carabao Cup match against Rochdale. One week later, he made his first start in a Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar.

Manchester United offered Williams a long-term deal on October 17 as Solskjaer believed in him. Three days later, he made his Premier League debut as a late substitute in the Red Devils’ clash against Liverpool.

His first league start came the following month with Luke Shaw injured and Ashley Young suspended. His performance caught the attention of United fans who voted him Man of the Match. He scored his first goal for Manchester United later that month in the 3-3 draw against Sheffield United.

Williams was offered a new four-year deal contract with option to extend for another year by Manchester United in August 2020. However, he struggled for playing time during the 2020-21 season and was loaned out to Norwich City in August 2021. He spent one season at Norwich but still struggled for playing time upon his return.

The Red Devils once again loaned him out to Ipswich Town for the 2023-24 season. He returned to Old Trafford after the end of the season and left as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract in June 2024. He has since been without a club.
