Culture and class seem an insignificant affair for tennis fans, but not for players fined by Wimbledon over unsportsmanlike conduct, verbal abuse, and equipment damage, among others.
They know the blunt of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), Wimbledon’s governing body. AELTC enforces all the rules and regulations of this third Grand Slam.
You could get a fine for something as simple as failing to have a white-soled shoe as a player. Some players have termed these Wimbledon rules as harsh, calling for a review of these rules that have existed since 1877.
However, AELTC isn’t caving in to this talk. The regulations are there to distinguish the tournament from others, and in a beautiful way.

Tennis legend Roger Federer had a weird moment with AELTC in June 2013 over his shoes that had an orange sole. This was a violation of the all-white dress code prescribed by the tournament officials. His fine was waived on condition that he would change to a pair of shoes with a white sole, which he complied to without hesitation.
Henry Patten
Henry Patten is not just one of the players fined by Wimbledon, but a player who was fined the highest amount in England for verbal abuse.
He was fined $12,500 for allegedly hurling insults at a Wimbledon staff member during a practice session within the precincts of the tournament ground at the 2025 Wimbledon. He appealed the case while his coach, Calvin Betto, termed the fine too harsh and unwarranted.
Amanda Anisimova
WTA player Amana Anisimova added to the growing list of players fined by Wimbledon in 2025. She was fined $4000 for what the tournament described as unsportsmanlike conduct as she played against Linda Noskova in the fourth round.

Colton Smith
American tennis star Colton Smith added to players fined by Wimbledon for his loss of temper that led to the damage of equipment and a racket at this year’s tournament. The tournament rules are categorical that every player must hold themselves to the highest degree of decorum at all times. His outburst cost him $2000 in fines for his unprofessional conduct.
Alex Bolt, Hailey Baptiste, Chloe Paquet, Zizou Bergs
These four tennis stars had an experience with the brush of power by AELTC this year after being slapped with a $1500 fine for hurling audible obscenities during their respective matches.
Any audible obscenity mentioned while at the Wimbledon precincts attracts a heavy fine. The quartet jointly made it to the players fined by Wimbledon this year for letting their frustration get the better of them.
