English Premier League club West Ham United have parted ways with head coach Graham Potter after eight months together.
Potter joined the Hammers in January, taking over from Julen Lopetegui who had been sacked due to a run of disappointing results. Potter was seen as the man to turn West Ham’s fortunes around but he has struggled to get the club back on the right track in the past few months.
The 50-year-old, who previously coached Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea, failed to deliver consistent results during the second half of the 2024-25 season and was lucky not to have been axed before the start of this campaign. The Hammers finished 14th last season – the same spot where they were when Lopetegui was relieved off his duties.

The east London club are now 19th on the Premier League standings, having picked up only three points from their opening five league matches. Potter has led the club to only six wins in his 25 matches in charge – and just three in the last 16 games.

West Ham have been winless in their last eight games at the London Stadium, a run which left a significant number of the club’s fanbase unhappy.
Last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home by Crystal Palace proved to be the final on the coffin for Potter whose sacking was clearly coming. BBC Sport reported after the match that Potter’s job was at serious risk as the club was considering managerial alternatives.
When asked if he was the right man for West Ham’s managerial position following the defeat by Crystal Palace, Graham replied “of course”.
West Ham Statement On Graham Potter’s Sacking
Potter has been in charge of the team’s training this week and even performed his media duties on Friday in preparation of Monday’s clash with Everton. However, the club’s heads had other ideas in mind as they decided to sack him on Saturday.
The club’s poor run during the second half of last season and the poor start to the 2025-26 campaign have led to Potter being relieved off his duties.
“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.” A statement on West Ham’s official website reads.
The club thanked Graham Potter and his coaching team for the hard work during their time in London. Potter has left with his coaching staff which includes assistant coach Bruno Saltor, and first team coaches Narcis Pelach and Billy Reid. Goalkeeping coaches Casper Ankergren and Linus Kandolin have also been sacked.

The Hammers have confirmed that plans to find Potter’s replacement are already underway. Nuno Espirito Santo, who was recently sacked by Nottingham Forest, is the favorite to take over West Ham’s managerial position.

Football Insider reports that Nuno has agreed to join the London club and will be in charge when they take on Everton in the Premier League on Monday. The Portuguese manager was sacked by Nottingham following his disagreement with the club’s hierarchy.
