Terence Crawford made history on Sunday morning when he defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to become a three-weight undisputed champion in the four-belt era. The 37-year-old history maker secured an unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring the contest 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in his favor.
Crawford was the underdog heading into the fight but left many shocked when he dismantled Canelo in front of 70,000 fans in Las Vegas. The American has been outstanding since winning his breakthrough world title in the fight against Britain’s Ricky Burns at the lightweight division back more than ten years ago. He went on to dominate the light-welterweight division and has now dethroned the biggest star at super-middleweight – ‘Saul Canelo Alvarez’.

The fighting pride of Omaha put in a performance for ages against Canelo, who claimed before their fight that he (Crawford) had “fought nobody”. Canelo was nothing but a shadow of the undisputed king he has been in recent years. The Mexican’s great days are truly behind him considering he lost to a fighter who belongs three divisions below him.

Canelo, 35, praised Crawford after Sunday’s fight and hinted that he’s open to a rematch.
“I feel great to share the ring with great fighters like him. If we do it again then it’ll be great. I already accomplished a lot in boxing. My legacy is already there and I like taking risks because I love boxing.” Canelo Alvarez is quoted by Sky Sports.
How The Fight Unfolded
The Terence Crawford vs Canelo Alvarez fight took place at the Allegiant Stadium and was attended by 70,482 fans, the largest crowd ever for a boxing match in Las Vegas. The star-studded ringside featured top musicians, athletes, and celebrities. The fight, which was streamed on Netflix, was promoted by Zuffa Boxing under UFC president Dana White’s TKO umbrella.
Both fighters weighed in at 167.5 pounds, which is a career-high for Crawford who has been fighting in the lower divisions. Canelo was the favorite as many expected Crawford to struggle in his first fight in the super middleweight.
There was little action to excite fans in the opening rounds as both fighters traded carefully. Canelo had the slight edge in the first four rounds but started to struggle in the fifth as Crawford took control of the fight. The American, who had been reading his opponent’s style in the first four rounds, started to land shots while smartly dodging Canelo’s efforts.
Crawford sustained a cut above his right eye and many wondered if he would continue to dominate the fight. Surprisingly, that didn’t deter the 37-year-old’s fighting as he reigned supreme up to the very last round.

“I knew I won when the last bell rang. God doesn’t make mistakes and I’m here for a reason, I’ve been telling you that all week. I don’t think he was less conditioned or anything, he was a thousand per cent prepared, I just think I was the better man,” said Terence Crawford according to Sky Sports.
Crawford exuded confidence all week as there was no doubt in mind that he’ll beat Canelo. He appeared relaxed and smiling throughout the fight week and had no tension at all on pre-fight news conference.
