Defending champion Jannik Sinner has set up a blockbuster US Open final against Carlos Alcaraz to renew one of the most exciting rivalries in sports.

Sinner, who is the number one ranked player in the world, reached the final at Flushing Meadows on Saturday morning after managing a 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-4 win over 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. Alcaraz, on the other hand, had secured his spot in Sunday’s highly anticipated final after dismantling 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.

Before the US Open began last month, many wondered who could stop Alcaraz and Sinner’s dominance in the tennis world in recent years. The Spaniard Alcaraz clinched back-to-back French Open titles and also triumphed at Wimbledon last year before losing the final to Sinner this year.

He will now be hoping to triumph at Flushing Meadows on Sunday playing against Sinner who has had an amazing year. The Italian world number has joined Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic as the only men to reach all Grand Slam finals in a single year.

Sinner trails head-to-head encounters with Alcaraz, having lost 9 of their 14 matches. He has lost three of their four encounters this year and could lose the top spot in tennis if Alcaraz wins Sunday’s final in New York.

Alcaraz Beats Djokovic In Huge Semi-Final Tie

The match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic was billed as the hottest semi-final tie at the US Open. Unsurprisingly, it lived up to the hype.

Djokovic had stunned Alcaraz in their last two encounters, including in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open earlier this year. However, the 22-year-old Spaniard was not going to accept a third consecutive defeat from the legendary Djokovic during their meeting at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Alcaraz broke the Serb in the very first game of the thrilling match and never looked back as he went on to clinch the first set. However, Djokovic upped his game in the second set, just like he did in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and threatened to win it when he took a 3-1 lead. But Alcaraz quickly noticed the shift in momentum and fought harder to ensure he found his way back into the match.

Djokovic, who was struggling to match his opponent’s energy, asked for treatment on his neck before the third set.

How Jannik Sinner Reached The US Open Final

Determined to reach the final of the US Open, Jannik Sinner was almost perfect in the opening set against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The world number one made just four unforced errors as he crushed his opponent 6-1.

However, he seemed to lose focus in the second set, making several errors which allowed Auger-Aliassime to grow into the contest. The Canadian, who had the most vocal fans on the court, eventually caught up with Sinner and went on to win the the set 6-3.

Sinner hadn’t showed any sign of struggle in the first two sets and surprised many when he left court for treatment in the third set. The Italian appeared fresher of the two upon his return to court and went on to win the last two sets in style and book his spot in the final.
