When Did Novak Djokovic Andy Murray Split?

Barely five months down the line, Novak Djokovic Andy Murray split took most tennis fans by surprise on Tuesday, May 13.

The two seemed to be getting along well on a player–coach side of things.

Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, coached Djokovic in the 2024 off-season (December) and at the 2025 Australian Open.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion was all praises about Murray after reaching the tournament’s semi-finals.

However, Djokovic posted on his Instagram page that it was an amazing six months working with Murray, but they had to part ways.

Djokovic picked fellow Serbian Boris Bosnjakovic as his new coach following Murray’s exit.

Justine Henin Speaks

Speaking recently about Novak Djokovic Andy Murray split, Henin said the Serbian hoped for a new phase in his tennis career when he hired Murray as his coach.

However, Djokovic, a former World No. 1, likely failed to get enough motivation from Murray. Thus, his decision to let him go.

Djokovic picked Murray as his full-time tennis coach after months of being without one, following the exit of his longtime coach Goran Ivanisevic.

Ivanisevic ended his tenure with the Serbian in March 2024 after working together since 2019. Without divulging too much, Ivanisevic said that they grew tired of each other and decided to call it time.

Additionally, the pressure that came with coaching Djokovic post-COVID-19 became unbearable ahead of the 2024 ATP Tour.

Pressure built up from September 2023 after Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam at the US Open. This was the last major win for him in nearly two years.

His hope was that Murray would help him regain his power on the court but he hasn’t been successful in winning another major slam since the 2023 US Open.

When Did Andy Murray Retire?

Murray announced his retirement in August 2024 following the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He said that a time came for him to take rest after years of giving his best to his tennis career.

The Scot added that his decision to quit tennis was mainly contributed to by his inability to win more titles.

Younger players on the tour became too competitive for his age and retiring was the best decision he could come up with.

Introspectively, he wished that he had done some things differently during his active-playing days.
