She described it as a bittersweet experience that she continually learns to live with. Playing tennis while still being a young mother has tested her in many ways.

Osaka shocked the tennis world in March 2023 when she announced that she would not participate in the French Open because she was expecting a baby.

How is Motherhood for Naomi Osaka?

The 27-year-old tennis star admits that it’s tough balancing her role as a mother, wife and tennis player. She strives to ensure that everything balances out and moves in the right direction.

This balancing act makes motherhood for Naomi Osaka tough sometimes. Her constant travel throughout the year adds another layer of challenge to her family.

She recently admitted during an interview with Hello Magazine that she was away from her family.

The former world No.1 said her daughter, Shai, gave her life a new meaning. She views life from another perspective that has also broadened her thoughts and how she does things.

She is thankful for the fan support and love. However, it’s Shai and her family who she is most grateful to for being with her during the bad and good in her life as a mother and a WTA player.

Shai has fulfilled motherhood for Naomi Osaka. She has taught the four-time Grand Slam champion the value of patience.

Osaka noted that she became a patient mom after Shai’s birth in 2023.

“Motherhood has definitely given me a broader perspective on life. Kids require so much patience, and I’ve definitely learned to be more patient through my daughter,” she told Hello.

Is Naomi Osaka Together with Rapper Cordae?

Rapper Cordae and Osaka split in 2025 over what she termed as ‘increased differences in priorities.’ She didn’t say much beyond that in her Insta stories.

It was widely perceived that they failed to agree on how best to be partners to one another after Shai’s birth.

While motherhood for Naomi Osaka added more commitment to her otherwise tight schedule, Cordae also had pressing music engagements that drew a rift in their relationship.

However, Osaka described Cordae as an awesome dad and a great partner. She insisted that there is no bad blood between them, as some people thought.

The double US Open champion further noted that despite their decision to split, Shai remains a top priority for them.

Their co-parenting is smooth and is bound by respect, according to the tennis star.

Cordae is easygoing and respects her opinions. This, she says, makes it easy to co-parent and do the best they can for their daughter.

Does Osaka Want More Kids?

With the highs and lows of motherhood for Osaka, she isn’t planning on having more kids soon. However, she is open to the idea of getting Shai a sibling in future.

For now, her main priority is raising her daughter, growing her tennis career and cooking for her family and friends.

As she heads out for a fifth Grand Slam at the French Open, Osaka added that she has learnt a lot about tennis as a mother.

She has to train harder and play better because the sport is more competitive than it was before.
