Alexander Zverev, and Nick Kyrgios would both battle it out for the most fined tennis player in history.
These two players are infamous for their on-court fits of anger in the course of their tennis careers. They are always a reference point for the consequences that follow after a fit of anger.
There was a fiery debate in 2022 and 2023 calling for the total ban of Kyrgios – an Australian tennis player – due to his series of outrages. Some tennis fans pressured him to retire just for a breather from his unending tantrums.
With such temperamental players on the ATP Tour, the fines and penalties record is steep.
The Most Fined Tennis Player in ATP History
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is indisputably the most fined tennis player. His total fines as of 2025 are shy of a million US dollars.
He has paid $857,000 in fines in his entire tennis career. He admitted in the past to his anger issues.
His biggest fines are as follows:
Cincinnati Masters
This ATP Masters 1000 event fined Kyrgios the highest amount $113,000, in 2019 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Aussie was cited for verbal abuse and racket abuse on top of his unprofessional conduct at the tournament.

Verbal abuse attracted a $20,000 fine. He described the umpire as the worst referee, a statement considered derogatory by the ATP. He was charged a further $3,000 for leaving the tennis court without seeking permission.
Cincinnati Open fined him another $65,000 for three counts of unsportsmanlike behaviour at the tournament. This fine is the single highest amount slapped on a player, thereby making Kyrgios the most fined tennis player.
Miami Open
Kyrgios has very salty memories of the 2022 Miami Open. He had to pay a $35,000 fine for verbal abuse against fellow tennis player Jannik Sinner.
He muttered audible obscenities against the Italian tennis player who won the 2025 Wimbledon.
Shanghai Open
The abrasive Australian tennis player had to part with a $32,167 fine at the 2016 Shanghai Masters for multiple counts.
He was cited for showing a lack of effort in his matches, verbal abuse of players and the chair umpire and abusing spectators.
The first count earned him a $13,127 fine, the second charge of verbally abusing the umpire cost him $6,563, while his disrespect for his fans attracted a $1,969 fine.

The 2019 Italian Open not only made Kyrgios the most fined tennis player, but also the most punished by the ATP Tour.
His unsportsmanlike conduct attracted a $22,000 fine. On top of this, he was docked ranking points and lost his prize money from the tournament.
It was a big blow for him and his career, which was at the time, on a red line due to his on-court emotional instability.
Australian Open
Damaging his racket and hurling audible obscenities earned Kyrgios a $4,926 fine at the 2015 Australian Open. He smashed his racket in a fit of rage and accompanied this action with obscenities, all against the Australian Open rules.

Tennis great Stan Wawrinka earned Kyrgios’ wrath at the Rogers Cup 2015. Kyrgios made insolent remarks against Wawrinka. This cost him $10,000, and it did not stop there. He got a further $2,500 for hurling insults at the ball boy. Rogers Cup also fined Kyrgios an additional $25,000 for using vulgar language, besides banning him for 28 days.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon adds to the debate of the most fined tennis player. The Grand Slam event fined Kyrgios $22,000 for wearing red accessories at the 2022 Wimbledon. The event has a strict all-white dress code that he breached.
