Losing in major tournaments is the biggest source of Daniil Medvedev tennis struggle. While he doesn’t beat himself much when he loses certain matches, he feels frustrated whenever he loses in major slams and some ATP Masters 1000 events.
The 29-year-old opened up on how he is feeling lately about his performance. He said that he has learnt to speak to other players when things get tough on the court.
Medvedev asserted that he gets help after speaking out to players who love tennis and not those who hate it, but still play it.
According to him, the locker room is always full of people who love tennis whenever they win and hate it equally if they lose.
However, the frustration doesn’t keep him away from playing and giving his best, albeit he feels mentally drained at sometimes.
Why Does Daniil Medvedev Get Angry on the Court?
Anger is among Daniil Medvedev tennis struggles. He has had ugly outbursts while on the court in the past.
His most recent on-court outburst was in Melbourne during the 2025 Australian Open, where he smashed a camera with his tennis racket.
He was widely criticised for this act, but it didn’t stop him from mocking the chair umpire at the 2025 Rotterdam Open.
Medvedev called him ‘rubbish’ after receiving a time violation in a game against Stan Wawrinka. He unapologetically said that the umpire had deep problems capping it with a deriding remark, calling him rubbish.

These are just two of the many instances he has had ugly on-court outbursts that rub many tennis fans the wrong way. However, he doesn’t get a hold of himself as he should.
He said that it’s a trait he grew up with, and he doesn’t know how to shed it. He sees it in his daughter, too.
Medvedev explained that he is not two-faced as people think. He stated that there are things that happen on the court, and they trigger other emotions that are bottled up.
Tennis courts are his life. Thus, any slight frustration seems like his world is tearing apart. The one-time Grand Slam champion described himself as a friendly and fun person to be around.
As a way to handle Daniil Medvedev tennis struggles, he is self-aware that there are days he behaves ‘foolishly’ because of not taking a second thought.
The Russian tennis player attributes this character to his clashes with fans, umpires and players.
