Nick Kyrgois suffers another blow to his tennis career as he is forced to withdraw from the 2025 US Open due to injury. US Open organizers confirmed his withdrawal today, August 21, indicating that he will be replaced at the Men’s Singles event by a Lucky Loser.
This is the third consecutive time that Kyrgois will miss the US Open. He last played at the event in 2022, reaching the quarter-final stage in New York. The 2022 season was the best in his career as he made it to the final of Wimbledon before continuing with his impressive run to the US Open where he lost in the last eight.

Things have not been smooth for the 30-year-old in recent years as he has struggled with injuries. He played just one match in 2023 and missed the entire 2024 season due to knee and foot injuries. He made a comeback earlier this year and played at the Indian Wells before being forced to retire because of an issue with his right wrist. He had a surgery for the wrist issue in September 2023.
Kyrgois played at the Miami Open and won his first match against Mackenzie McDonald 3-6 6-3 6-4. However, he lost in the second round against Russian Karen Khachanov and has since not returned to court. Speaking after his victory over McDonald at the Miami Open, Kyrgois said that injuries made him think he might never play tennis again.

“To come off and get a win and feel like I belong again was special. I never thought I would play tennis again to be brutally honest with you. I was having conversations with my camp and my team… and I said: ‘I don’t know how long I can keep doing this for.'” Nick Kyrgois is quoted by BBC Sports.
Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori Defend US Open Mixed Doubles Titles
The 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles was filled with stars, including Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu. Despite being up against some of the biggest names in the tennis world, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavasorri made history by defending their title.
This year’s event was moved to one week before the tournament itself kicks off hence allowing the top stars to take part. Also, the prize money was increased from USD $200,000 to $1,000,000.
A total of 32 players, 16 males and 16 females, played a shortened format of first to four games across three sets. The Italian duo Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori started their campaign by beating Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz. They also recorded stunning victories over Karolína Muchová and Andrey Rublev, and Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison before making it to the final where they faced Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud.
Arthur Ashe Stadium was fully packed for the Mixed Doubles final, which turned out to be entertaining as everyone expected.

There could be a change in next year’s format as Vavassori suggested an increase in participants at the competition.
“The schedule is very tough to organize. We have so many tournaments. But I think maybe one more round and you can put (in) so many other good players. Maybe you can put also the narrative about singles against doubles. Today was two doubles players at the top of the game and two singles players at the top of the game. It was a good matchup also for the crowd.” He said, as per CNN.
