Team Kenya secured second place overall behind the United States with 11 medals. Kenyan athletes won seven gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals.

Kenyan female athletes dominated middle- and long-distance races in the nine-day event held in Japan. They raised the country’s athletic profile in unimaginable ways.

They scooped gold medals in all the marathon categories and in the 800m.

World Athletics Championships Results for Kenya Tokyo 2025

Although the US took a lead with more medals for each category, Kenyan athletes matched the expectations from their fans. Below are the athletes who posted Kenya Tokyo 2025.

Beatrice Chebet

Beatrice Chebet emerged as a dominant force at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, securing two gold medals.

She opened Kenya’s medal tally by winning the women’s 10,000m in 30:37.61. She followed it up with a second gold medal in the 5,000m.

Her tactical precision, relentless pace, and finishing strength booked her two major win at the Japan National Stadium.

Peres Jepchirchir

Peres Jepchirchir powered past Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa in a thrilling dash to the line, securing her maiden World Championship crown. The Tokyo Olympic champion now celebrates another victory in the very city where she captured Olympic glory back in 2021.

Faith Kipyegon

The ‘smiling queen’ earned her fourth gold medal at the World Athletics Championship. Faith Kipyegon decorated the Kenya Tokyo 2025 list with her powerful pace in the 1500m race in 3:54.92.

“4TH TIME 1500M CHAMPION OF THE WORLD. This was my dream, another world title, continuing to make history. I am so happy to be in Tokyo, it’s bringing back so many memories from the Olympics. The energy from the spectators is incredible,” she wrote after her victory.

She then won a silver medal in the 5000m race. She said that she wasn’t sure that she would win the race because she hadn’t run in this category this year.

“Heading into the World Champs without having run a 5000m this year, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m incredibly grateful to be going home with my second medal of the championships!” she wrote.

Faith Cherotich

Faith Cherotich stormed to victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, with a championship record time of 8:51.59. The young Kenyan delivered a stunning upset by overcoming defending champion Winfred Yavi, a Kenyan-born athlete competing for Bahrain.

Cherotich’s relentless pace and flawless hurdling secured Kenya its first steeplechase gold of the competition.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi

Emmanuel Wanyoyi is a special entrant of the Kenya Tokyo 2025 star athletes. The men’s 800m final produced another golden moment for Kenya through Wanyonyi.

He ran in 1:41.86, to write a new championship record in the 800m race and won a gold medal. He had an explosive finish that added yet another accolade to his Olympic gold medal.

Lilian Odira

Closing the World Athletics Championships in style, Lilian Odira delivered a stunning performance in the women’s 800m. She surged past Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson and compatriot Mary Moraa with a perfectly executed sprint in the final 100 meters.

Her winning time of 1:54.62 is another championship record that also sealed Kenya’s seventh gold medal of the event.
