Igor Shesterkin started playing cricket while still young. As a youth, he played for Russian team Krylya Sovetov Moscow where his performance caught the attention of scouts from Spartak Moscow. After playing for Spartak at the MHL level during the 2012-13 season, Shesterkin got his chance at the top level midway through the following campaign. After showing good performance, he was signed by perennial powerhouse SKA Saint Petersburg in the summer of 2014.
