1. World Athletics Indoor Championships (March 21 – March 23)
Once again, the World Athletics Indoor Championships will be underway this year. The Chinese city Nanjing, which was supposed to host the prestigious event in 2020, will officially have the honour to do so starting on March 21.
The two-day event offers world’s top athletes the opportunity to showcase their talent on track and various field events. Qualifications are currently underway and will continue until the start of March. The United States of America is the leading favourite to collect more medals as they walked away with 20, including six golds in last year’s event in Glasgow, Scotland.
3. Women’s Euro 2025 (July 2 – July 27)
Next up on sports events 2025 to keep an eye on is UEFA Women’s Euro Championship. Switzerland will be the host of this year’s event which allows fans to see the best that women’s football has to offer.
Since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a good number of football fans have been showing interest in women’s football matches. World champions Spain are the favourites to win the title that has eluded them in the past editions but will have a tough task against the likes of holders England and record seven-time winners Germany.
The 16-team event will take place across eight different venues in the host nation from July 2 to July 27. The first match of the tournament will be between Iceland and Finland in Thun. The prize pool for this year’s event is 34 million euros, which is more than double the amount that the nations competed for in 2022.
3. Women’s Rugby World Cup (August 22 – September 27)
For the first time since 2010, England will be hosting the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which is undoubtedly the biggest tournament in women’s rugby. The Red Roses have not done well at the global stage in recent years but will be looking forward to add this year’s title to the one they won eleven years ago.
4. ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup (September – October)
Cricket fans will have the pleasure of watching the highly publicized ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup unfold in India for a period of one month. This year’s event marks the third time that India has hosted the prestigious tournament, having been hosts in 1997 and 2013.
As of the time of writing, the full list of teams, venues and exact dates of the Cricket World Cup are yet to be confirmed. Australia, who are a force to be reckoned with as far as cricket is concerned, are favourites to win the tournament. They are the defending champions.

5. Africa Cup of Nations ( December 21 – January 18, 2026)
The thrill and drama Africa’s football provides will be in full display once again later this year as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kicks off on December 18. Lovers of the beautiful game from different parts of the world will be booking their flights to Morocco where the event will be underway. This marks the second time in history that North African country has hosted the tournament, with the first time being in 1988.
Morocco are favourites to win this year’s AFCON which will feature 24 teams from all parts of the continent. However, it won’t be an easy task as they will have to battle for the title against defending champions Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Egypt. Mohamed Salah, who has been on form this season with Liverpool, will be looking forward to lead Egypt to their first AFCON title since 2010.
