Victor Haki who plays as a forward for Murang’a Seal FC is a regretful man following his unpatriotic celebration of Harambee Stars loss.
Kenya lost 4-3 to Madagascar on Friday, August 22. Madagascar narrowly progressed to the CHAN 2024 semi-finals after a penalty shootout at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Haki shared a video of himself celebrating this loss, something that rattled Kenyans. They felt the video was shared in bad taste, considering the squad outdid themselves in the African Nations Championship tournament.
What Happened to Murang’a Seal Player Victor Haki?
His ‘unpatriotic’ video caused a tirade online as Kenyans bayed for his football career. He recorded himself reeling in happiness after the Kenya vs Madagascar game.
The Murang’a Seal forward didn’t hide his distaste for the Kenyan national team despite being acquainted with most Stars players.

A section of Harambee Stars fans said that Victor Haki didn’t deserve to play for any Kenyan football club.
“What an insolent man! Kui Kamau exuded. “Yaani with all efforts by coach Benni McCarthy, this man has the audacity to go online and celebrate? He shouldn’t play for any Kenyan club.”
Her observation drew a lot of support from fellow Kenyans who shared their disappointment with Haki.
“What’s the worst adjective to describe this guy? How do you celebrate when your team is losing after such a brilliant performance? He needs to be cancelled immediately,” Ochungo Odhis stated.
Phyllis Kerubo said: “If this was my husband, I would walk away from that marriage. What a disgrace!”
Charles Wambu said that Haki’s celebration was evidence that he doesn’t treasure football enough.
“He has a choice and reason to celebrate Harambee Stars’ loss. But, his actions alone speak of a ingret, and a very mean person at heart.”
Did Haki Apologise?

With too much heat on his viral post, Victor Haki ate humble pie and apologised for his post. He deleted the video and said that he is now aware of how unpatriotic it made him look.
“I want to sincerely apologise for the video I shared after Harambee Stars’ loss to Madagascar. I realise it came across as insensitive and disappointing, especially when the entire nation was hurting.
It was unpatriotic, in bad taste, and not a true reflection of the respect I have for Harambee Stars, the players, the coaches, and the millions of fans who proudly stand behind our team,” his apology read.
Harambee Stars CHAN24 Loss

Kenyans congratulated Harambee Stars despite the knockout from CHAN24 and Victor Haki mockery.
“We had a remarkable run. Harambee Stars have silenced doubters, lifted the spirit of a nation, and reminded us that when Kenyans play with courage, confidence, and determination, nothing is impossible,” President William Ruto said.
“Yes, we bowed out at the quarter-finals — but we fought valiantly to the very end. To lose in the lottery of penalties is no dishonour; to push the contest to such a finish is itself a badge of greatness,” he added.
Ruto urged the squad to focus on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
