Victor Boniface has been trending in the sporting world for the past few days after reports emerged that he has parted ways with his girlfriend.
Boniface, who has been out of action for some time now due to injury, had been dating his Norwegian girlfriend Rikke Hermine for four years before the breakup rumours hit the headlines.
Speculations about the trouble in paradise began late last year after Rikke failed to interact with Boniface’s posts during his holiday in Lagos, Nigeria. The Bayer Leverkusen footballer shared pictures celebrating Christmas with family and friends. Rikke, who was in Norway during the Christmas holiday, did not like or make any comment on the posts.
According to reports, things have gotten worse between the lovebirds as they no longer follow each other on social media. Rikke, who has been supportive of his boyfriend’s career since they started dating, deleted most of their pictures together from Instagram, leaving only one.

Boniface and Rikke were last seen together in May during Bayer Leverkusen’s title celebration. The couple shared a kiss and took pictures with family members.
The Nigerian Voice reports that the reason for their breakup is the footballer’s insistence on a “legal marriage without a prenuptial agreement”. The word legal marriage in this situation means a contract that indicates ownership of property in case of divorce in the future or death. Since Rikke wasn’t in for such a marriage, the couple decided to go their separate ways.
Boniface and Rikke have been together since 2021 when they met in Norway. The Norwegian beauty has been supportive of the footballer on and off the pitch during their four years together. As of now, it remains to be seen if they will announce their breakup or one party will give in to the demands of the other and make things work for them.
Victor Boniface Pays Tribute To His Mother
Whereas the football world is waiting for Boniface to address their relationship status, the Bayer Leverkusen man in the mean time has decided to pay tribute to his late mother on social media. Boniface took to Snapchat and shared a touching photo accompanied with an emotional caption.
“My mum”, He wrote and then added a dove emoji.
Boniface has spoken about his mother several times and left many talking in April 2024 when he spent over ₦10 million on jewellery to honour her. The striker acquired two diamond-encrusted chains, one featuring her mother alongside his siblings and the other written, “Keep Resting Mama.”
Victor Boniface’s mother passed away in in accident in 2023. Speaking about her mother’s death, the Akure-born striker previously said he lost his passion for football for some time and even drank alcohol.
Boniface grew up with his grandparents sharing a strong bond with them. His grandfather was an army so he was raised in a military domain and often played football there with his uncles and other men older than him.
Boniface started playing organized football at Lagos’based club Real Sapphire. After turning professional, the striker went out on loan to KTFF Süper Lig club Lefke TSK in January 2018.

On March 4, 2019, Boniface was acquired by Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt. He suffered a ligament injury shortly after signing for the club and remained on the sidelines for the majority of 2019.
After three years at Glimt, Boniface secured a transfer to Belgian club Union SG and soon caught the attention of top European clubs. He joined Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen and played a significant role in their title triumph at the end of the season.
Boniface last played for the reigning Bundesliga champions in November due to a hamstring injury. The striker was expected to return to action earlier this year but his comeback has been delayed due to a slight injury setback.
