- Tusker FC loss loss to Sofapaka has irked the team’s head coach Charles Okere
- The 7-1 Sunday loss opened a new struggle for the club in its quest for the KPL title
- Tusker comes second with 55 points
Tusker FC loss to Sofapaka has irked the team’s head coach Charles Okere, terming it the worst performance by the brewers in history of the Kenya Premier League (KPL).
Sunday’s 7-1 loss opened a new struggle for the club in its quest for the KPL title, that is under the grip of Police FC with a 61-point lead.
Tusker comes second with 55 points. Police FC made an incredible jump in the KPL standings following their 1-0 win against Talanta FC last weekend.
Okere’s headache is delivering the league title at the end of this season.
Historic Tusker FC Loss to Sofapaka
A livid Okere said that it was hard for him to wrap his mind around the dramatic loss to Sofapaka. He explained that he would demand answers from the players.
He told a press briefing after the match that he had no idea why Sofapaka would give them a seven-goal thrashing.
Okere noted that Tusker FC loss was a ‘big shame’ because the club has invested in acquiring skilled players.

While terming it ‘the worst game’, the coach admitted that his players are the problem. He said that Sofapaka ‘scored cheap goals’ throughout the match, and his players did nothing to counter them.
He is pained that they fought their way up the charts only to disappoint as the league nears an end.
From his coaching perspective, there was no reason why the team lost this match, more so by conceding seven goals.
He remarked that Sofapaka played a good game. However, Tusker FC loss with so many goals remains unacceptable.
Sofapaka scored four neat goals in the first half. They added another three in the second half, with Tusker managing to score just a single goal in the second leg of the game.
Will Tusker FC Win KPL?
Chances for the brewer to win the KPL thinned after Sunday’s loss. There is a six-point difference between Tusker and the Police, who are currently in the lead.
Police FC would have to lose all their next game,s while Tusker FC has to win all the next games for the rest of the season for them to be crowned KPL winners.
The men in uniform beat Talanta FC to expand their lead over the brewers. Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks have a date with Tusker FC next week.

Jose Mburu, a football analyst, said Tusker FC’s loss has no comeback.
“The brewers stand no chance of winning KPL this season. A six-point difference is big, even assuming they win their next two games. Police FC can, and will, most likely win their next season matches,” he explained.
“It’s good that they came this fa,r but the truth is that the trophy is not theirs this season. There is a next season, which could be it for them. Now, Police FC have a huge advantage.
Although Okere has hope of winning the league, he has issued an ultimatum to players who feel they belong elsewhere.
He asked them to leave the team rather than sabotage the team’s efforts. Okere said these players played ‘clueless football’, which a big team like Tusker FC doesn’t accept.
The coach has now sounded an alarm for ‘coasting players’, saying he isn’t about to let anyone water down his efforts.
