Career
After showing signs of becoming a top footballer, Baggio was signed by his hometown club Caldongo in 1974. He was at the time nine years and went through the club’s youth system until 1980 when Vicenza acquired him for 300 euros.
Baggio spent three years with Vicenze reserve team before turning professional. The talented forward then played for Fiorentina from 1985 to 1990 before Italian giants Juventus came knocking. With Juve, he won the Serie A and Coppa Italia titles at the end of the 1994-95 season. He had earlier won the UEFA Cup in 1993.
Baggio then continued with his career at AC Milan, with whom he won the Serie A IN 1995-96. He then had spells at Bologna, Inter Milan and Brescia before retiring from professional football in 2004.
From 1988 to 2004, Baggio represented the Italy national team at international level. The forward played 56 matches, scoring 27 goals. Despite being Italy’s best player at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he missed the decisive penalty in the shootout which Brazil won. He is the only Italian to score in three World Cup tournaments.
