Samatta was born in Dare Salaam, Tanzania on December 23 1992 to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ally Samatta. Mbwana began with street playing just like many other kids and when his father saw his talent, he gave him all the support.
He was born in a family of two siblings, him and a brother by the name Mohamed who is also a football player in Tanzania.
Mbwana comes from a family of Muslim faithful’s and has made the Umrah to Mecca. Ally is married to his wife Naima Omary, with two kids-a son and daughter.
Career
Samatta began his youth career at Club African Lyon in Tanzania. He became a professional with Simba Sports Club where he played for a half season before joining TP Mazembe. Previously, he also played for Simba SC where he began his professional career with the club.
At Simba, he only played for a half season making 25 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals in all the competitions.
At Mazembe, he spent five years and then became a first-team regular, helping the team win at the CAF Champions League also being named African based Player of the year.
With TP Mazembe, he made 103 appearances for the club, scoring 60 goals in all the competitions.
He scored a hat-trick that saw them in the semi-finals where they went on a draw in a match aver Al-Merrikh SC.
Samatta was the first East African player to be crowned the CAF African player of the Year, at the Glo-CAF awards held in Nigeria.
Mbwana joined Belgian side K.R.C Genk on a four-and-a-half-year contract and helped the club qualify for the UEFA Europa League and won the Belgian Jupiter league in 2019.
Mbwana left Genk on joining Aston Villa where he signed a four-and-a-half contract, becoming the first Tanzanian to sign for a Premier League club. Aston Villa paid a transfer fee of $10.5 million to Club Genk for his release.

He became the first Tanzanian to score in the Premier League when he scored on his league debut for Aston Villa. He later joined Super Lig Club Fenerbahce S.K on an initial loan deal which ran to the end of the season, signing a four-year contract at the end of his loan spell which was part of the deal.
On the international level, he has represented Tanzania at various age levels and also at the senior level.
Mbwana made his international debut for Tanzania in 2011 and represented the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Since his debut for his country, he made over 55 caps and scored over 15 goals for Tanzania.
Samatta has kept history for being the first Tanzanian born player to ever play and score in the Premier League and for playing as a striker for Belgians first Division A team Antwerp.
Mbwana joined Belgian side Royal Antwerp on a season-long loan making his debut for the club in a win against KAS Eupen. He scored his first goal for the club in a loss against Olympiacos in the Europa League group stage match.
