- Rashford has joined Premier League side Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season
- Aston Villa have not paid any transfer fee for the loan move and will cover a minimum of 75% of Rashford’s wages
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has joined Premier League side Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season. Rashford’s exit was confirmed by United on Monday, one day after the club suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat in the hands of Crystal Palace.
According to credible sources, Aston Villa have not paid any transfer fee for the loan move. Also, Unai Emery’s side will cover a minimum of 75% of Rashford’s wages. The 27-year-old is one of the top earners in the Premier League with an annual salary of over £15 million, as per his salary profile on Capology.
Speaking after his move was made official, Rashford thanked both Manchester United and Aston Villa for making the move happen and wished his parent club all the best for the remainder of the season. He also revealed that there were other clubs interested in signing him this January transfer window.

“I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen. I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the manager’s ambitions. I just want to play football and am excited to get started.” Rashford wrote on his Instagram, as per BBC.
This January transfer window saw United loan out one of their most talented players in recent years. Rashford has left Old Trafford twenty years after he first arrived at Man Utd as an academy starlet. After 426 appearances, 138 goals and five trophies, one of United’s most gifted footballers has left the club to start a new journey elsewhere. But what really happened?
Marcus Rashford Fallout With Manchester United
Rashford has been through a difficult period in the past few weeks. The England international, who is arguably the best forward the Red Devils had in their squad, has been a subject of debate with numerous reports suggesting he is more out of the club than inside.
After surviving Erik ten Hag’s storm, things seemed to have kicked off on a high note for Rashford under new manager Ruben Amorim as he scored three goals in two league matches. However, things seemed to start falling apart for the academy graduate.
First, he was dropped from United’s matchday squad ahead of the Manchester derby on December 15, sparking a lot of reactions from journalists and fans. Three days before the derby, which United won 2-1, the forward had been taken off early in the second half during a Europa League clash against Czech club Viktoria Plzen. His replacement Rasmus Hojlund went on to score a brace to help United turn the match around and secure a crucial victory.
Sources close to Manchester United reported that Amorim wanted to send Rashford packing as soon as the January transfer window opens. However, the former Sporting CP manager tried to counter the views.

Rashford has been excluded from the Red Devils’ matchday squad for the past eleven out of 12 games. The only time he was included in the squad was during Manchester United’s 2-0 loss against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, but he remained on the bench until full time.
Responding to Amorim’s decision to exclude him from the team, Rashford hinted that he is ready for “a new challenge” during an interview with Henry Winter. While many interpreted the message as if he wanted to leave Manchester United, his camp later came out to indicate that he was just voicing a feeling of frustration.
Fast forward to February, Rashford and Amorim have both made a huge call. Whereas the manager has excluded Rashford from his team until the end of this season, the forward needs to deliver success at Aston Villa in order to earn his place back at his boyhood club.
