Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday after thrashing Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium in New York. The Blues have now won the Club World Cup twice, with their previous trophy triumph coming in 2021 after they beat Brazilian side Flamengo in the final.
Chelsea went into Sunday’s final as the underdogs compared to Paris Saint-Germain who have been sweeping aside all the top teams this season. PSG wrapped up the Ligue 1 title in early April and then went on to demolish Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final to win the prestigious title.

Luis Enrique’s men came into the Club World Cup as one of the favorites and showed their dominance by beating top European sides Bayern Munich with nine men and recording a 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid en route to the final. They were heavily tipped to cruise past Chelsea and make history by winning their first Club World Cup trophy. However, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca had other plans.
The Blues prioritized a first start in the game, and their high press was nearly rewarded in the tenth minute when Cole Palmer’s well taken effort went just wide. The 23-year-old was playing well and eventually opened the scoring in the final after a brilliant counter-attack from his team.
Palmer doubled Chelsea’s lead shortly afterwards to put his team in a good position of winning the title. New signing Joao Pedro then scored the third goal shortly before the break to put the Blues 3-0 up.
PSG tried to find their way back into the match in the second half but Chelsea’s solid play saw them hold on to their lead up to the last second of the game. Joao Neves was sent off in the 85th minute after a brief VAR check showed him pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair.
There was drama on the pitch after the match as Chelsea players clashed with those of PSG who looked visibly upset with the lose. Luis Enrique might have questions to answer as he appeared to slap Joao Pedro in post-match before unused substitute Presnel Kimpembe pulled him away.
POTUS Donald Trump Celebrates FIFA Club World Cup Triumph With Chelsea
The Club World Cup final was attended by 81,118 people, including president of world governing body FIFA president Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump.
Trump was briefly booed by some of the fans at the stadium in New York before he presented Chelsea captain Reece James with the trophy alongside Infantino. The FIFA president then invited Trump to leave the stage but he remained in position as Chelsea celebrated their title triumph.
Palmer, Chelsea’s hero in the FIFA Club World Cup final, was handed the Golden Ball of the competition for being the best player of the tournament. Robert Sanchez was also among the award winners of the competition, receiving the Golden Glove which is given to the best goalkeeper.

Chelsea’s recruitments in recent years have been a laughing stock but they proved the football world wrong with their performance at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Blues had the youngest squad of any team at the competition, with no player older than 27.
Chelsea will begin their 2025-26 English Premier League campaign on August 17 when they take on Crystal Palace. Meanwhile, PSG have another chance of winning a silverware when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.
