Managerial overhaul continues in the Premier League, with Everton boss Sean Dyche being the latest manager to be sacked. Dyche was relieved off his duties on Thursday evening, hours before Everton played their third round FA Cup clash against League One side Peterborough. He is the sixth Premier League manager to be sacked since the start of the 2024/25 season.

The Toffees, who have struggled the whole of this season, are currently 16th on the Premier League standings with just one point above the relegation zone. They have won just three Premier League matches this campaign.

Everton were beaten 1-0 on Saturday by Bournemouth in what was Dyche’s last match in charge of the Merseyside club. With a section of the club’s fans calling for his sacking, the Englishman was relieved from his duties on Thursday evening.

According to BBC Sport, Everton new owners the Friedkin Group, who acquired the club for £400 million in December, have been in talks with Dyche since the start of this week over an exit package as both sides agreed it was time to part ways. Dyche’s exit was announced after an agreement was reached and the Briton leaves together with members of his coaching staff – Ian Woan (Assistant Manager), Steve Stone (Assistant Manager), Mark Howard (Men’s First Team Head of Performance) and Billy Mercer (First Team Goalkeeper Coach).

Everton under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and current club captain Seamus Coleman will be caretaker managers until a new permanent head coach is appointed. The two, who have over 800 appearances for Everton together, were in charge during Thursday’s crucial win over Peterborough.

It is reported that the club’s new owners the Friedkin Group want to replace Dyche with a manager who has Premier League experience. Dyche, who took over from Frank Lampard on January 30, 2023, helped the Toffees avoid relegation on the final day of the 2022/23 season by securing a memorable 1-0 win over Bournemouth. In his first full campaign, he guided them to a 15th place finish in the Premier League standings.

Everton have looked organized defensively this season but struggled to show prowess in front of goal. They have recorded just 63 shots on target this season and have the Premier League’s lowest expected goals (xG) rate at 18.33, as per BBC Sport. Such stats leave them once again battling to avoid relegation.

The Toffees have won just one of their last 11 games, with that victory coming against fellow relegation candidates Wolves last month.

Everton Win After The Sacking Of Sean Dyche

Manager Dyche was hoping that his side could use the FA Cup tie against Peterborough to “build some positive momentum” after what has been a terrible season so far. He was even on the training ground on Thursday morning, but got sacked just hours before the clash.

With Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman announced as caretaker managers, they led the club to a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. Portuguese forward Beto opened the scoring for Everton shortly before half-time by rounding Peterborough goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net.

The visitors also had their chances in the game but it was the Premier League side that comfortably won the match, thanks to Iliman Ndiaye’s injury-time penalty.

Everton’s win saw them secure a spot in the draw for the fourth round. Meanwhile, the owners now have a task of finding a suitable manager to lead the club following the exit of Dyche.
