Career

Eboue began his career at the ASEC Mimosa youth academy and for 19 years, he joined ASEC’s Belgian parent club KSK Beveren in Europe, in 2002. His amazing performance at the club put him in the limelight and major clubs like Barcelona were yearning to have him.

In 2003, he joined Arsenal. He appeared as a substitute in the FA Premier League, making three appearances and scoring his first goal for the team in the club’s League Arsenal’s 2004-05 Cup campaign. In 2006, he played at the Africa Cup of Nations and on coming back, his first career in the premiership as a right back came in over Liverpool at Anfield, coming on as a replacement for Lauren who was injured.

From 2005-2011, he spent most of his career with the English Premier League club Arsenal. He played 214 games including the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final. This earned him the name ‘the fearless.’

He was named Arsenal Player of the Month in 2006-7 September. However, the following month he suffered an injury sending him to recovery. In May 2007, he signed a contract with the Gunners and in 2010, his contract was extended.

He then joined a Turkish club Galatasaray in Istanbul in 2011 after signing a four years contract at a fee of about $3.84 million. He won five domestic honors in the club. His net worth was primarily from football career earnings.

In early 2016, he signed a short contract with Sunderland and before a month’s end, he was banned from playing at the club on allegations of not paying his former agent. In his defense, he said that he was broke since he had divorced his wife who took away everything from him.

His then-manager at Galatasaray sympathized with Emmanuel and gave him a coach position on the U-14 team in December 2017.

Personal Life

Emmanuel was born on 4th June 1983 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and was raised by his grandfather Amadou Bertin together with his brother N’ Dr Serge who died in a motorcycle accident. As a child, his dream was to become a professional footballer and every day to him was a football day.

Emmanuel got married to his Belgian wife Aurelie and was blessed with three children. Their marriage didn’t work well and they filed for divorce where the court ordered him to give all his property to his wife.

It was an overwhelming moment to handle the divorce and at the same time, he lost his grandfather who raised him to cancer. Adding insult to injury, he was deprived of seeing his children who were under their mother’s custody. Things were tough and were on the verge of committing suicide.

After two years of hardship, he moved back to Cote d’Ivoire, reunited with his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Boede and tied the knot in a private wedding.
