Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz has returned to the English Premier League signing with Nottingham Forest. Luiz has joined Forest on loan until the end of the season with the option of making the move permanent in the summer of 2026.
Luiz previously played in the Premier League for Aston Villa before securing a transfer to Italian Serie A club Juventus last summer. He was a key played for Villa during his time at the club, making more than 200 appearances across all competitions.
Prior to his big move to Juventus in June 2024, Luiz scored nine goals and provided five assists in 35 Premier League matches for Villa during the 2023/24 season. However, he struggled to be at his best in the Serie A and only made 19 appearances, starting just three.

Speaking after signing a deal with Nottingham, Luiz said he was impressed by the club’s ambition and is ready to give is best for the team and fans.
“I am really happy to be here, it’s a big club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans.” Douglas Luiz is quoted by Nottingham Forest’s official website.
Douglas Luiz Career
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Luiz fell in love with football at a young age. After going through several tests in Itaguai, he was offered a chance at Vasco da Gama youth setup at the age of 14. He went through the club’s youth system and eventually had a chance to make his debut for the senior team in August 2016.
Luiz caught the attention of Premier League giants Manchester City, who signed him in July 2017. He was sent on loan to Spanish club Girona FC, where he spent two seasons. He was initially supposed to spend on e season in Spain but saw his time there extended to two years because of the UK government denying him work visa.
Luiz ended up joining Aston Villa in 2019 and was later granted a work visa. The Brazilian stunned football fans in August 2022 when he scored direct corners in two consecutive fixtures. He first scored directly from a corner in a third-round EFL Cup tie against Bournemouth and then repeated the feat one week later as Villa played Arsenal in the Premier League.
After being linked to Arsenal, Luiz penned down a five-year deal with Aston Villa in October 2022. His impressive performance during the 2022/23 campaign earned him the Player’s Player of the Season and Supporter’s Player of the Season awards.

Luiz left Villa in 2024 because the club needed to comply with profit and sustainability rules (PSR). Despite being hopeful during his move to Juventus, things didn’t quite work for him in Italy, which is why he opted for a move back to the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest believe that the 27-year-old will add quality to the group of players in their squad.
“It’s been a very busy but successful period for us in the window in the past few weeks, and Douglas is another addition to the squad that will bring significant quality to the group.
