The Portugal international has dropped a major hit regarding his future, but which are the clubs Cristiano Ronaldo could join this summer?
Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in January 2023 after falling out with ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Since his arrival in Saudi, several top European stars have signed with various Saudi Pro League clubs and more will be joining this coming summer transfer window.
After a stellar performance in Saudi Arabia, which includes winning the Saudi Pro League Golden Boot two consecutive times, the 40-year-old has hinted that he would be moving on with his career elsewhere this summer.
Ronaldo has been in fine form in the past two years, scoring 99 goals in 111 appearances. However, the only trophy he has won with Al-Nassr since his arrival is the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. Stefano Pioli’s side have finished third in the league and will miss out on next season’s Asian Champions League. They were knocked out of the competition in the semi-final stage this season by Japan’s Kawasaki.

After last night’s shocking defeat against Al-Fateh, Ronaldo posted a photo on his his X account, formerly Twitter, with the caption: This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
With the post indicating a possible exit, here are 3 clubs Cristiano Ronaldo could join this summer.
Sporting Lisbon
A return to where it all started could be the most obvious scenario for Cristiano Ronaldo after his spell in Saudi Arabia. Prior to his Manchester United exit, several sources reported that Sporting were keen on bringing Ronaldo back to Portugal. However, things never went as expected and the Real Madrid legend secured a big move to Al Nassr.
Once again, Sporting have another chance of signing Ronaldo on a free transfer. However, the decision will entirely depend on the legendary forward as this deal could see him take a massive pay cut.
Ronaldo began his football career at Sporting progressing through the youth set-up and making his debut on 14 August 2002 at the age of 17. In September 2021, ESPN reported that Ronaldo’s mother Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro said her biggest desire before she dies is seeing her son playing for Sporting one more time.
“Ronaldo has to come back here. If it were my choice, he would already be here. He likes to watch Sporting games. I’ve already told him: ‘Son, before I die, I want to see you return to Sporting’. He says: ‘Let’s see’: But if it can’t be him, then Cristianinho!” She said in a podcast according to ESPN.

Wydad
Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr runs out on 30th June and several clubs are already eyeing him. One of the clubs Cristiano Ronaldo could join this summer is Moroccan side Wydad.
According to sources, Wydad wants to sign him because of his wealth experience and sporting incentive. The clubs participating at the Club World Cup will have a small window to make signings before the highly anticipated tournament kicks off in the United States.
Former Manchester United midfielder Nordin Amrabat confirmed reports that his new club Wydad are trying to pursue a move for Ronaldo. “The president is very ambitious and is still working with some very big names. It is true that Cristiano is one of them.” Goal quotes Amrabat.
Real Madrid

In April, El Nacional reported that Ronaldo was desperate for a second spell at Real Madrid and was pressing president Florentino Perez over a potential move. The report added that Perez would only bring Cristiano to the Bernabeu if for an ambassadorial or director role.
Considering Ronaldo has not showed interest in hanging up his boots, it is unlikely that he will return to Real Madrid this summer. If he’s lucky enough, he would negotiate a short term deal with Perez that would last until the end of summer.
