Di Stefano joined River Plate in 1944 and spent one year at their academy before turning professional in 1945. During his two years at the club, he scored 55 goals in 75 matches and helped them win the Argentine Primera Division twice.

Di Stefano continued with his football journey in Colombia where he played for Millonarios. He led the Colombian side to three league titles in 1949, 1951 and 1952. He was the league’s top scorer for two consecutive seasons and bagged a total of 93 goals in 111 appearances for Millonarios.

Real Madrid signed Di Stefano in 1953 and his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu marked the start of the most significant period in the club’s history. The talented forward helped the Los Blancos win eight La Liga titles and five European trophies during his time at the club.

Di Stefano left Real Madrid in 1964 and signed with Espanyol, where he played for two seasons before ending his playing career. At international level, he represented the Argentina national team six times and the played for Spain in 31 matches, scoring 23 goals.
