Career
Ruturaj Gaikwad grew up in a supportive family where he was allowed to play cricket. When he was 13, he joined the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Varroc Dilip Vengsarkar Academy’ and trained with other boys his age.
In 2015, Gaikwad played at Maharashtra invitational tournament and scored 306 runs in a match partnership of 522 runs alongside his teammate and partner Vinay. His performance earned him the opportunity to play first-class cricket during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy.
In December 2018, Gaikwad was acquired by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) of the Indian Premier League ahead of the 2019 IPL season. Since his arrival, he has been a key player for the team, which led to his appointment as captain in March 2024.
At international level, Gaikwad has been a regular for the India national cricket team. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Team India in July 2021 against Sri Lanka and then earned his ODI debut in the clash against South Africa in December that same year.
