Anthony Joshua Nigerian fight is the talk of the boxing circles with reports indicating he could be headed to Lagos early 2026.

The former unified world heavyweight champion has been out of action since September 2024 due to injury.

He lost his last fight to Daniel Dubois and is now preparing to stage his comeback in Nigeria. Dubois won the IBF heavyweight world title with a fifth-round knockout at Wembley Stadium.

It was a major step in his boxing career. He successfully defended his IBF heavyweight world title which he retained for a second time since his promotion from an interim champion to a full champion.

He denied Joshua his third IBF title.

Boxing Promoter Dr. Ezekiel Adamu confirmed that discussions to host Anthony Joshua Nigerian fight are in progress.

Dr. Adamu recently hosted a successful boxing event in Lagos alongside Amir Khan. Joshua, a British-Nigerian boxing star has been recovering from injury since his loss to Dubois.

His return to the ring is likely to be in Nigeria, although there are also hints that Ghana could host him too.

According to Dr. Adamu, the last Lagos boxing event was successful because it showed the world that Africa was capable of hosting a world-class boxing event.

He is now focused on bringing Joshua home in the first quarter of 2026. The Nigerian promoter stated that Joshua’s desire is fighting in Africa before his retires.

Sky Sports reports that the Nigerian government and boxing fans alike are excited at the prospect of hosting Joshua.

As the African economic capital – as Dr. Adamu described it – Nigeria stands out as the best country to stage Joshua’s comeback fight.

It’s not clear yet who will the battle will be with during Anthony Joshua Nigerian fight. However, Martin Bakole, a Congolese heavyweight who trained with Joshua is ready to take on the two-time IBF champion.

After losing to Joseph Parker and drawing with Efe Ajagba, Bakole said that he’s ready and willing to take on Joshua if the chance comes.

Bakole noted that he, and Joshua are African fighters adding that a match between them would elevate the sport’s position in Africa.

He claimed Joshua is avoiding a bout because of what happened when they sparred, and insisted that if they did fight he would definitely stop Joshua inside the distance.

The Congolese added he would even finish Joshua in Nigeria before Joshua’s own fans. He argued the matchup should happen in Africa and dubbed it a modern “Rumble in the Jungle.”

In response, Dr. Adamu acknowledged that Bakoole is an option, but they are yet to name decide who will fight the British-Nigerian boxer.

He added that they have several options they are considering.
