He explained that he is at a point in life where he isn’t running anymore to win. The 40-year-old said he no longer runs to compete. He now does it for his health and fitness goals.
“To those who feel it’s time for me to retire, I say this with respect: Nowadays I don’t compete to win; I compete to stay fit and strong. It’s my hobby,” he told Olympics.com.
The Tokyo and London Marathon Champion wondered why Eliud Kipchoge retirement came up after finishing a distant ninth at the Sydney Marathon. Kipchoge wondered why he was the topic of focus and not the person who won this marathon.
He concluded that his presence in global athletics is very important, which is why he doesn’t plan on retiring.
