The 2025 summer transfer window is closed but there are several amazing free agents clubs could grab for free. The weeks after the transfer deadline are for players without clubs to secure moves. It might come as a surprise that there are several big stars who are without a club after their contracts expired in the summer. Whereas some were not in a hurry to join new clubs in the summer, others haven’t received offers from the top clubs.

Fortunately for them, this is the time when clubs who weren’t done with building their squads will approach them. With that said, let’s take a look at the top free agents that should be on the radar of big clubs.

1. Christian Eriksen

Denmark international Christan Eriksen is available on the market for free transfer. The 33-year-old is still without a club since parting ways with Manchester United in June following the expiry of his contract.

Eriksen was spotted training with UEFA Europa League club Malmo on Thursday and it remains to be seen if the Swedish club will offer him a contract. However, Malmo already submitted there squad for the Europa League, which means that the experienced midfielder will not be able to play for them European football even if they sign him.

Eriksen established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world during his time at Tottenham Hotspur and impressed with his performance at Manchester United. Despite not securing a move during the 2025 summer transfer window, we can be certain that he’ll join a club soon.

2. Takehiro Tomiyasu

Well, you’re not the only one surprised to see Takehiro Tomiyasu on the list of players still available as free agents. Tomiyasu has proven to be among the top defenders in the world but injuries limited his time on the pitch in his last two seasons at Arsenal. He made just one substitute appearance the whole of last season.

Arsenal were forced to make the difficult decision of releasing the Japanese full-back in July, a decision which he accepted as he’s currently focusing on his recovery. Tomiyasu has received interests from Serie A giants AC Milan and it remains to be seen if he’ll recover in time to move to Italy.

 3. Hakim Ziyech

Former Chelsea man Hakim Ziyech is one of the free agents available on the market. The Moroccan winger made headlines with his performance during his time with Dutch side Ajax. He was instrumental to Ajax’s run to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League during the 2018-19 season.

However, many were surprised when Chelsea failed to get the best out of the winger. Ziyech parted ways with Qatari club Al-Duhail in January and is yet to find a club eight months later. There are reports that his a target of Serie A club Elche.

4. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is arguably the most successful footballer on this list of free agents clubs could sign. The 32-year-old won the FA Cup with Arsenal three times and achieved more success at Liverpool where he clinched the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League.

Despite winning the Turkish Cup with Besiktas during the 2023-24 season, Chamberlain had a disappointing run in Turkey. Besiktas announced that they had terminated his contract on August 27, paying him a severance fee of €1.75 million. The midfielder was approached by Birmingham City but he’s still available on the market as a free agent.

Sergio Reguilon is a name that many football fans have forgotten. After a bright start to his football career at Real Madrid’s academy, Reguilon seemed destined for greatness. However, he struggled for playing time after being promoted to Real Madrid senior team and spent time on loan before joining Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal in 2020.

Reguilon flopped in North London and was loaned out to Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford, but none of the clubs offered to sign him on a permanent deal. The Spanish left-back is only 28, which means he has the energy to continue playing and could get a club to sign him in the coming days.
