Caroline Garcia, the 2022 US Open semifinalist, announced her retirement from professional tennis on Day 2 of the 2025 US Open.
The 31-year-old, who made headlines over the years for her performance on court, said goodbye to the tennis world after losing her first round match against Kamilla Rakhimova. Garcia suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 defeat in the hands of Rakhimova, who is ranked world number 65.
Garcia had an amazing tennis career, winning 11 WTA titles. Even though she never made it to the final of a singles Grand Slam, the Frenchwoman boasts winning two majors at the French Open. Together with her teammate Kristina Mladenovic, she finished as runner-up at the 2016 US Open doubles.

Her biggest achievement in singles is winning the 2022 WTA Finals championship. She is a former world number one in singles.
“Yeah, obviously it’s not really easy to step on the court when you don’t know it’s your last match or if you win maybe you have another last match. It’s kind of a tricky moment. But a lot of emotion before the match, even if I got a lot of emotion out in Roland Garros. But, yeah, it meant a lot for me to play one more time US Open.” Tennis Now quotes Caroline Garcia.
Garcia first revealed her plans to retire on the eve of the French Open. She took part in her 14th consecutive tournament at Roland Garros and lost in the first round of singles to American Bernarda Pera. However, she made it to the third round in doubles with her teammate Diane Parry.
Garcia reached a career-high world number four in September 2018. However, she often struggled with injuries throughout her career and took a break from the sport in March 2022 to take care of a foot injury. The hiatus brought her the momentum she needed as she had an amazing second half of the 2022 season, reaching the semifinal of the US Open and beating Aryna Sabalenka to win the WTA Finals championship.
What Next For Caroline Garcia?
While announcing her retirement from tennis, Garcia said she is happy with bringing the court down on her professional tennis career. The Frenchwoman didn’t reveal what exactly she’ll be doing after retirement but she hinted at dedicating her time on the popular podcast Tennis Insider Club, which she launched with her husband in 2024.
“I think I want to keep going the podcast. Obviously, you know, it’s little by little it’s growing. We believe we are doing some good things and giving back, sharing tips, sharing behind the scenes, sharing tips from the best players and coaches.” Garcia said, according to Tennis Now.
The podcast has opened doors for tennis players to connect with fans by sharing insightful information about their careers and personal lives. Garcia and her husband have so far interviewed top stars in the tennis world such as Victoria Azarenka, Gael Monfils, Ons Jabeur, Naomi Osaka, Maria Sakkari, Andrey Rublev and Alize Cornet.

Garcia is married to her lifelong partner Borja Duran. The couple had their wedding at the historic La Torre Del Remei in Spain. The big event included everything, from a traditional church ceremony to dance floor. She posted the photos on social media and received congratulation messages from top tennis stars such as Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro.
