Venus Williams retirement date is one of the things that a majority of tennis fans looked forward to following her long absence from the WTA tour 2025.
A big surprise though, is her return to tour at the Citi DC Open after a 16-month tennis hiatus. Many people thought she silently hang her tennis racket to focus on her life.
It turned out that her fiancee Andrea Preti talked her into returning to tour at 45. She disclosed that Preti understands her deep love for tennis and her willingness to follow her dreams even as the oldest WTA player on Tour.
Is Venus Williams Retirement Date Out?
Most tennis fans are eager to know about Venus Williams retirement date, but they will have to wait longer for it. Nothing points to Venus retiring from tennis yet.
Her former coach Rick Macci recently revealed that Venus’ focus is on playing tennis now. Macci, who coached both Serena and Venus revealed that he had heard a discussion with the seven-time tennis star about her retirement.

He said that he is the reason Venus returned to the WTA Tour after 16 months of being away. She won the first-round match against Peyton Stearns at the Citi DC Open, WTA 500 event.
It was a huge achievement for a player of her age to win a match against a younger tennis player.
Macci coaches Venus in his Florida academy back in 1991 when the star was only 11 years old. He coached her until 1995. He also trained her younger sister Serena back in the 90s.
He told Tennis365, that Venus remains his favourite tennis player because she exhibits a lot of determination to do better even after recovering from injuries.
To him, the two sisters are like his daughters, whom he is ready to counsel anytime. His connection between him and Venus is stronger because he coached her longer than he did with Serena.
Does Venus Still Compete?

Amid rising interest about Venus Williams retirement date, the 45-year-old American tennis player displayed her tennis brilliance at the Citi DC Open in July.
The former world No. 1 paired with Hailey Baptiste to win a match in the Citi DC Open doubles. However, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by eventual champions Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai.
Following her victory over Stearns, Williams now ranked 643rd in the world, received a wildcard entry for the 2025 Cincinnati Open.
She is set to open her WTA 1000 campaign against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. In 2024, she put out questions about Venus Williams retirement date.
The former world No. 1 and Olympic gold medalist said that Serena’s retirement sent a message to her fans that she was also retiring.
She said that when her day comes, she will walk with grace because she has achieved a lot in life through tennis.
