This follows several media reports linking him to other club roles with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs back in his home country, South Africa.

These reports hint at the possibility of an early departure from Harambee Stars months after he was named the head coach of the Kenyan national football team.

However, McCarthy hasn’t said anything about his departure or his alleged football roles in South Africa.

He continues to build his squad for CHAN 2025, set to begin on August 2. Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasaran,i will host this continental tournament in Nairobi alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

He insists that his goal is to transform Harambee Stars in his two-year tenure with the Kenyan club.

Benni McCarthy Contract Termination Clause

McCarthy has a two-year contract with Harambee Stars slated to end after the conclusion of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He took the head coach role on March 2, 2025 and made huge promises in his maiden speech.

However, he hasn’t achieved much with the few matches that the Stars have played so far.

Mohammed Hussein, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, recently explained the elements of Benni McCarthy contract termination clause.

He also espoused circumstances under which the South African coach can leave Stars before the end of his two-year contract.

Hussein said that McCarthy would need to give a two-to-three-month notice should he decide to leave the team. The FKF President added that his contract has exit provisions, the most important being official communication of his planned exit.

“We have a clear agreement in the contract that either party must give notice if they wish to terminate the agreement. It’s a short notice period, around two to three months and either side can trigger it. We have a clear exit plan,” the FKF boss said during an interview with Citizen TV.

While still on Benni McCarthy contract termination clause, Hussein Said that FKF does not foresee McCarthy’s early exit.

He stated that the former Manchester United assistant coach will complete his two-year tenure with the Stars.

The South African gaffer’s goal is to elevate Harambee Stars to continental champions. He is eyeing the next series of AFCON to spotlight the team. He recently blasted Kenyan football fans for being impatient.

He defended his record so far, stating that he has been with the team for only three months, which is not enough to learn and build a formidable team.

McCarthy noted that he has channelled his energy into continental tournaments to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each player.

He desires to have Harambee Stars win AFCON, CHAN and other Confederation of African Football (CAF) sanctioned tournaments.

Despite swelling rumours about Benni McCarthy contract termination clause, he is busy building a squad to play in the 2025 CHAN, scheduled to start in August.

Kenya will play in Group A where football heavyweights such as Morocco, Angola and DR Congo.
